Dry Ice
Washtenaw Dairy is one of the few locations in Southeast Michigan where dry ice is available. Dry ice is great for keeping things frozen or cooled and for special effects.

APPROXIMATE COOLING TIMES (in an insulated container):

5 to 7 lbs. – 18 to 24 hours
8 to 12 lbs. – 34 to 40 hours
13 to 20 lbs. – 40 to 60 hours

Cooling times may vary depending on environmental conditions.

NOTE: Michigan Law requires that one must be at least eighteen (18) years of age to purchase dry ice.

CAUTION: Dry ice temperature is -109.3F (-78.5C). Always handle dry ice with care, wear gloves at all times. If dry ice comes in contact with bare skin, injury similar to burn will result.
  • FOR FREEZING - Place dry ice on top of the items to be frozen. If freezing meat, do not allow direct contact between it and the dry ice as freezer burn may occur.
  • FOR COOLING - Place dry ice in the bottom of a cooler, cover with regular ice or insulating material, and then place food, cans, etc. on top.
  • FOR SPECIAL EFFECTS - Use gloves to place small amounts of dry ice in hot water for fog. Use approximately 10 pounds per hour.
